AH Marine steel plate Material strength and corrosion properties

2023-10-26 14:53:01

According to the grade specification of ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), AH marine steel plate refers to Marine structural steel with a certain material strength. In the ABS specification, AH Marine steel plate is divided into several grades, such as AH32, AH36 and so on.

The following are some common AH Marine steel plate grades and their typical material strength values (taking tensile strength as an example) :

- AH32 Marine steel plate: minimum tensile strength of 315 MPa (MegaPascal).

-AH36 Marine steel plate: minimum tensile strength of 355 MPa.

It is important to note that these values are general reference values only, and actual material strength may vary by manufacturer, supplier and product batch. In addition, other factors such as plastic toughness, impact strength and weldability are taken into account in ship design and specifications.

AH Marine steel plate is facing severe corrosion challenge in Marine environment. In order to ensure the durability and safety of the ship structure, AH Marine steel plate usually adopts a series of measures to improve its corrosion performance, including:

1. Steel plate coating: The common method is to coat the surface of the AH Marine steel plate with an anti-corrosion layer, such as hot dip galvanizing, spraying organic or inorganic anti-corrosion coatings, etc., to form a physical isolation and protection layer.

2. Outboard coating system: The hull surface is exposed to seawater, so the use of outboard coating system helps to reduce corrosion. These systems include primers, anti-fouling coatings and weather-resistant topcoats to provide an additional layer of protection.

3. Electrochemical protection: By applying an electric current to the AH Marine steel plate, for example by using a cathodic protection system, the corrosion rate can be reduced and the life of the Marine steel plate can be extended.

4. Material selection: The selection of materials with high corrosion resistance is also an important consideration to improve the corrosion performance of AH Marine steel plate. For example, use steels containing corrosion resistant alloying elements such as copper, aluminum, nickel, etc.

Please note that specific corrosion performance depends on a number of factors, including environmental conditions, maintenance practices, and ship design and operation. For a specific model or brand of AH Marine steel plate, it is recommended that you consult the relevant steel producer, supplier or professional Marine engineer for more detailed and accurate corrosion performance information.
