Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) has signed a new agreement with the Maritime Administration of the Republic of Cyprus.
It is reported that the new agreement expands the scope of Cyprus' authorization to Russian Maritime Register of Shipping. Now, Russia has been authorized to carry out investigations on ships flying the Cyprus flag to see if it meets the requirements for international codes for ship operations in polar waters, ship-specific safety codes and diving system safety codes.
The agreement came into effect on August 1, 2019, marking a high level of cooperation between the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping and the Cyprus Maritime Administration. According to the information, there are currently 23 ships of the Russian classification society that are flying the flag of the Republic of Cyprus, and two new ships are under construction.
The Republic of Cyprus is one of the world's largest flag-hanging countries in terms of the number of ships registered. As early as 2005, the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping obtained the authorization of Cyprus.
