AQ63 Ship Plate: High-Strength Solution for Mild Marine Environments

2025-10-17 16:40:52
AQ63 is a high-strength ship plate grade compliant with international marine standards such as EN 10225 and ASTM A131, engineered specifically for structural components in shipbuilding and offshore structures. A defining feature of AQ63 lies in its robust mechanical properties: it boasts a minimum yield strength of 450 MPa and a tensile strength range of 570-720 MPa, significantly higher than lower-grade counterparts like AQ56. Its chemical composition—typically 0.18% max carbon, 1.60% max manganese, and trace alloying elements including niobium and vanadium—enhances grain refinement, ensuring excellent ductility and toughness. Unlike low-temperature-focused grades, AQ63 performs optimally at temperatures above -20°C, making it tailored for mild to moderate marine climates.
The primary role of AQ63 is to provide reliable structural support for critical ship components that bear heavy loads without requiring extreme cold-resistance. Its key advantages include exceptional weldability: it can be welded using standard marine techniques such as submerged arc welding with minimal pre-heat treatment, reducing construction time and labor costs. It also offers superior fatigue resistance, a vital trait for parts subjected to repeated wave-induced stresses, such as hull frames and deck plating. Additionally, AQ63 exhibits inherent corrosion resistance to saltwater and marine atmospheres, extending the service life of marine structures with minimal maintenance.
AQ63’s application scope is extensive in temperate marine regions. It is widely used in constructing large cargo ships, container vessels, and bulk carriers, where its high strength supports heavy cargo loads. It is also a preferred material for offshore structures like drilling rigs and wind turbine foundations in coastal areas with mild climates. Common applications include hull bottom plating, cargo hold bulkheads, and longitudinal girders—components that endure significant structural stress. Furthermore, AQ63 is utilized in retrofitting older ships, as it aligns with modern strength requirements while remaining compatible with existing structures.
